The
Wisconsin Initiative for Math Science and Technology Education
is a NASA funded project to increase the use of NASA resources
in Wisconsin schools. Additional funding from the U.S. Department
of Education has expanded the project to include pilot programs
in Iowa and Alabama.
The cornerstone of WIMSTE is to improve
student performance in Earth and space
science by using the Internet to connect
students and teachers with NASAs
unique resources through the creation of an Internet-based portfolio of quality
instructional resources. WIMSTEs professional development plan will build
awareness for NASA resources and increase educators competency in Earth
and space science. WIMSTE connects students and teachers to the missions and
research conducted by NASAs Earth Science Enterprise and the Office of
Space Science.
WIMSTE is aligned to the Teacher/Faculty Preparation and Enhancement Education
Program Category of NASAs Implementation Plan. This category has the
following goal:
To use the NASA mission, facilities, human resources, and programs to provide
exposure to teachers and faculty, to support the enhancement of knowledge and
skills, and to provide access to NASA information in science, mathematics, technology,
engineering and geography.
